Borough Park, In Desperate Need Of Additional Housing

Borough Park, Hundreds of families in this and in other crowded Jewish Brooklyn neighborhoods six or seven children is the norm, and therefore there's a desperate need for housing.

Community activist Isaac Abraham says the issue should have been addressed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg a long time ago.

“It's getting to be four years later, [and] is there a single affordable unit under his clock? No, not yet,” says Abraham.

Borough Park's population grew more than 15 percent from 1990 to 2000, while there was a less than five percent increase in housing stock.
“Housing has been on the table for a very, very long time, but some zoning changes needed to be made in order for this to move ahead,” says Hikind. “And swoop, it's just great to have election years.”

Rezoning? How is that the solution? Do we want 20 story buildings in Boro Park, like we are getting in Wmsbg?

Hasn't Bloomberg already rezoned 39th street to create new homes?

well, lets make it a little clear for your readers.

rezoneing from a M-1 to R-1 is very good and former Mayor Guliani did this in Willamsburg, Bushwick and Greenpoint.

the problem is two fold, 1-no developer wants to give prime land or property for low or affordable units.

2-be real, the Jewish community is being priced out in Boro Park and in Willamsburg, parents can't afford to buy 3-400 thousand dollar co-op's, marry off children, make a bar mitzvah and also support the children and grand children.

the responsibilty of a Mayor is, to get the funds from Housing Preservations and Development, State Housing Division and the Federal Housing and Urban Development.

when was the last time you noticed that HUD is giving grants for affordable units? does anyone know the name of HUD Secratary? or the person from HUD in NY?.

the government spend billions of dollars on all other matters, why isn't housing an agenda for the last 12 years?.

even Section 8 is being cut, so from where can a family of 4 or 5 take 1500.00 for rent and then pay for tuition, Grocery, clothing, and a simcah, from where?.

and thats the job of the people who know how to complain and ask for help, they are not asking housing for them selfs, but for you and me and the children of the future.

people on this blog always respond and attack the messinger, look at the issue and respond if its right or wrong.

but some of you just read the news news and get to this site to have fun and degrade people, thats why people who try to help, stay away.

its not every time that what you want makes the news, some times it works the other way around, you wait for the newsa to get to you.

since it is an election year and Bloomberg is running again, they want to know what is the most important issues that concern the Jewish community and has beeen done.

as for the politicians, never wait for them, they will only be there when press shows up.

they have no idea how to argue a case, on the housing issue they should have worked on it 10 years ago.

if not for Gush Katif, ask what has Dov Hikind done lately?.
