City To Spray For Mosquitoes In Queens tonight
The city plans to spray for mosquitoes in Queens neighborhoods in the Rockaways, including Arverne, Somerville, Edgemere, Edgemere Park and Landfill and Bayswater.
Trucks will be spraying on Monday as a precaution against the West Nile virus.
Officials stress there have been no reported cases of West Nile in the city so far this year. The virus can be spread through mosquito bites.
Residents with asthma or other respiratory illness who live in the areas targeted for spraying are asked to stay inside to avoid exposure to the pesticides. The Health Department also recommends closing air conditioning vents and says any yard equipment or toys should be washed thoroughly after the spraying.
Weather permitting, the spraying will begin between 8:30 Monday night and end at 6:00 Tuesday morning.
