Brooklyn Navy Yard, Historic Houses "Admiral's Row" Could Be Demolished For Commercial Use
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation wants to acquire ten brick houses along Flushing Avenue - Admiral’s Row land - from the federal government, and demolish the houses and replace them with industrial buildings, which they say will help create more manufacturing jobs.
But local residents are fighting it and say houses should be fully restored and preserved as a unique reminder of Brooklyn’s historic navy life.
However Brooklyn Navy Yard President Eric Deutsch believes the current state of the homes is beyond repair.
The issue goes before the Department of City Planning later this month.
