Building inspector seeks to bar use of Monsey synagogue for now.

Ramapo Building Inspector will go before the Town Board tomorrow to seek an injunction to bar everyone but construction crews from visiting Monsey synagogue Congregation Birchas Yosef where a 6-year-old boy Moshe Laufer was injured after falling through a hole on Sept. 3rd.

About 300 people had gathered at the synagogue at 6 Milton Place for a wedding ceremony, the building inspector said, even though the building had not been completed and did not have a certificate of occupancy. "It's a construction site," he said. "They had no permission to be there.
Police were still looking to speak to witnesses who saw the boy fall. "We could not find any witnesses," they said, the incident is still under investigation and that Chevra Hatzoloh Ambulance of Rockland County, which went to the accident site, did not follow proper protocol when calling for a helicopter.

The ambulance company said that they are authorized to call STAT Flights and usually contacts the county fire control center, but that night Hatzoloh's dispatcher was busy handling three other emergency calls, "We messed up this time," they said. "We didn't use the recommendation. We always do to notify them. There was a slip-up there."

Ramapo police are asking that anyone who saw a 6-year-old boy fall through a hole in the floor of a synagogue at 6 Milton Place on Sept. 3 call police at 845-357-2400.
