LONDON - Council Accused Of Discrimination Over Bus Costs

LEEDS, LONDON - Angry nine Orthodox Jewish families have taken Leeds City Council to the High Court in London over claims the authority discriminated against their children.
The case was brought by families who pay for their children to be bussed every day to a school in Manchester.
They argued, if the council would not provide a Jewish school in Leeds, then it should fund the travel costs of allowing the children to continue their Jewish education, claiming the council had acted unreasonably and unlawfully and failed to treat Jewish children the same as they would Christian children.

The case was brought after the council decided last September that it was "not appropriate" to provide funding for a school coach to take the nine children from Leeds to Manchester, where they attend either the independent Manchester Grammar or state-funded Jewish school King David High.
