NYC Council Overrides Mayor's Veto On The Landmark Status Of 184 Kent Avenue In Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The New York City Council voted to override Mayor Bloomberg's veto of its decision to remove the landmark status of the Austin, Nichols Warehouse at 184 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg.
The override, which was expected, was 37 to 8, with 2 abstentions. The mayor vetoed it on Monday as reported by VOS IZ NEIAS.
Several Council members who did so explained their votes with passion. "I have never seen the Landmarks Commission landmark a property that didn't deserve to be a landmark," said Margarita López. But David Yassky, whose district includes the building, said, "If we're going to landmark the industrial buildings along the waterfront, that will impede development.
