Woodbury, NY +NYS Thruway Traffic Advisory+ A serious MVA earlier this morning on the northbound side of the New York State Thruway at MM 51.4 - north of the Toll Plaza - had the roadway closed down for traffic both ways for 40 minutes, with a one vehicle over the guardrail into the woods and one aided was pinned FD worked the scene, Medivac was launched and left the scene with aided on board, NY State Police are still working on the investigation, expect delays in the area.

Three Thruway Authority inspectors Thursday took a close look at the stretch of the superhighway in which three fatal accidents occurred in recent weeks and determined there are no defects that contributed to the crashes.
Nine people died in the three crashes; four each in two of them.
Thruway chief engineer Chris Waite said the inspectors drove up and down the accident area and inspected everything from guide rails to the grade of the roadway.
“The three specialists looked at the roadside safety, things that we have installed like guide rail and traffic barrier; they looked at condition of the pavement and highway alignment; and they looked at some of the same things that the state police investigators looked at such as the tire tracks and paths of the vehicles,” he said.
The inspectors noted that motorists are traveling at higher speeds so more traffic enforcement may be in order,
All three accidents occurred on a stretch of the highway between Harriman and Tuxedo.
