New York, NY - City Beefs Up Security For Passover
New York, NY - Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and community leaders met to discuss the possible threat to Jewish neighborhoods.
While police say there is no reason for a state of alert, the NYPD will increase its patrols in-and-around those areas.
"We will deploy our Hercules teams to major temples and synagogues in Manhattan and other boroughs as well. Our critical response units will make frequent stops in neighborhoods and synagogues around the city," said Commissioner Kelly.
"In addition to devoting extra attention to police patrols protecting the city's synagogues and yeshivas and other Jewish institutions, the NYPD Unequal Intelligence and Counter Terrorism divisions will be on the alert," added the mayor.
Bloomberg also says the Department of Consumer affairs will monitor price gouging and the Sanitation Department will increase its weekly collection in certain areas around the city.
