Hartford, CT - Shabbas Will Keep Lieberman From Democratic Convention
Hartford, CT - State Democratic Party officials confirmed, that the endorsement for U.S. Senate is scheduled for the Friday night opening session of the two-day Democratic State Convention -- meaning incumbent U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman will not be present when delegates vote.
Lieberman, an Orthodox Jew, will be unable to attend the convention, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, because of religious observance of Shabbas preventing him from participating in events from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday.
The convention is being held at the Expo Center in Hartford May 19 and 20. It is anticipated the Saturday session, which begins at 9 a.m., would likely end before sundown.
