Iran Denies Reports Of Yellow Armbands For Jews

Tehran - Iran on Saturday categorically denied press reports that Jews in Iran would have to wear yellow armbands.

The comments followed a Canadian National Post article from Friday that quoted Iranian expatriates living in Canada as saying that Jews would have to wear yellow armbands, that Jews would be forced to wear the cloth strips 'like the Star of David that Jews were made to wear in Nazi Germany' and Christians red strips.

The US State Department expressed concerns about the law, with spokesman Sean McCormack saying that if it was true, 'it has clear echoes of Germany under Hitler.'

But Jewish Iranian Member of Parliament Maurice Motamed said that no such decision had been taken by the Iranian parliament during discussions on the so-called 'national dress-code bill.' The MP was referring to the approval last Sunday of the bill which is supposed to replace current Western fashions in Iran.

Khabar termed the report as 'simply ridiculous' and branded the National Post as a pro-Israeli Zionist publication.
