NY - Register Your Electronics With The NYPD
New York, NY - Has your iPod, Blackberry or Treo been stolen? Invisible ink could be the answer to getting it back.
The NYPD has launched a program to mark iPods, cell phones, Blackberries and other portable electronic devices that are often stolen on subway trains and platforms, the program is quietly being offered at Transit Bureau offices and at various subway stations.
The devices are marked with ink that can only be seen with infrared light. With the marking, police are immediately able to determine whether the item has been stolen, then get it back to its owner.
And in case thieves are able to erase the ink, police are recording serial numbers as well.
