Kiryas Joel, Monroe, NY - Chief Of Nonprofit Organizations Rakes In Triple The Salary

Kiryas Joel, Monroe, NY - The executive director who runs the nonprofit organizations Hamaspik for the disabled in Kiryas Joel and in Monsey, made $452,000 in total compensation in 2004, by collecting $283,000 that year in separate salaries for the two organizations, - almost triple the pay of one industry peer with a much larger operation to run. An other $169,000 spent that year on him, is less clearly defined; he is claiming that that money is set aside for retirement.
While the pay is unusually high, there is no indication that it violates any government rules.

Hamaspik runs group homes and provides other services for disabled children and adults in three Orthodox Jewish communities, in Kiryas Joel, Monsey and Brooklyn. It has no connection to the Kiryas Joel public school for students with mental and physical disabilities. Almost all of the combined $13 million that the Rockland and Orange County Hamaspiks collected in 2004 came from Medicaid and Medicare.

The executive director declined an interview requests, but answered some questions via e-mail. In one message, he explained his two salaries by saying he works full-time hours - meaning 40 hours a week - at each of the two Hamaspik operations. "I work for each agency as hard as or harder than any counterpart," he said.
In another note, he justified his deferred compensation as a pension that makes up for "many previous years not being compensated."

Annon at 9:33 am: I don't get it - why is this a "classic act of Jew bashing"?
Same article, but let's say it's a black Christian man. Would you be commenting that it is a "classic act of black Christian bashing"?

    This is strikingly ironic.

After weeks of endless digging, the reporter had to admit that “there is no indication that it violates any government rules,” nevertheless, he finds it newsworthy enough to report on some random-guy’s salary.

Perhaps Chris is regretting that he is in the wrong line. I feel his pain.

It's always good to know how much "compensation" a public figure or rosh hamosad earns - dollar for dollar.
It makes life so much easier to know that he is getting reimbursed for his efforts and not doing it for "mitzvah", not "a tzaddik".
Let all their employees demand fair compensation and parents of nebach children not be pressured to come up with money to pay for things.

hello, after reading all the comments i decided to put mine is as well.

since i have a brother in hamaspik for almost 10 years now, I think I should know a little better then all of you what exactly is going on there.

first you should know that Hamaspik was started and ran with private funds for the first few years till it got govermental approvall, for which he was never compensated.

then you should know that HAMASPIK is one of the best paying employers with all the benefits attached to it.

but what you should realy know is that between all those institutions out there nobody beats Hamaspik, my brother has been to Chush, Hasc and many more , even to Eretz Yisroel, but didnt settle for anything less then Hamaspik, my parents life took a new level after placing our beloved son/brother in Hamaspik.

so from my point of view, even if he takes a million dollars its worth it, the heartfull staff he put together, with around the clock motherly service is unbeatable, and by the way he has or had a son in this inst. when it started which makes him so understndable to this issue, and he is ireplaceable.

    Thank You
