Kiryas Joel, NY - Village Requests Water Tank Reconsideration

Kiryas Joel, Monroe, NY - Hoping to prove its determination, the Village of Kiryas Joel will make another pitch to build a pair of water storage tanks inside the undeveloped county park known as the Gonzaga property.

A 3-5 vote by the Orange County Legislature’s Physical Services Committee on Wednesday effectively killed the proposal. Today, Kiryas Joel will ask the Rules Committee to give it another chance. “I'm hopeful that the Rules Committee will keep an open mind,” Kiryas Joel Administrator said. “This is only sending it to the full Legislature. It’s not committing to anything.”
One major obstacle stands in the path. Legislator Spencer McLaughlin, R-Monroe, one of the village’s most outspoken critics, leads that committee. He said he won't let the issue on the agenda. “I'm going to deny it,” McLaughlin said, who was among the no votes Wednesday. “I got what I want. I'm not going to open the door to let them get what they want.”
