New York, NY - Police Commissioner Warns Of Homegrown Terrorists
New York, NY - Police Commissioner Ray Kelly warns that homegrown terrorists pose an increasing risk to the city. In an interview, Commissioner Kelly says there is growing concern that radical Islam is finding more and more recruits among Muslims living in the United States. Kelly says that those recruits are mostly young men that are recruited through a growing number of extremist web sites.
In the interview, Kelly points to last week's arrest of alleged al-Qaida supporter Syed Hashmi. Born in Pakistan, Hashmi reportedly got into the jihadist movement while growing up in Queens and in college in Brooklyn.

Ethnic profile proposed for terror suspects

NEW YORK (AP) - State legislation proposed Thursday would allow law enforcers to consider race and ethnicity in identifying potential terrorism suspects - a move decried by a civil rights advocate.
Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, noted that the 19 men who carried out the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks all were Muslims from either the Middle East or Asia - backgrounds he said resembled those of the terror suspects arrested in Canada last week.
"Let's get real. There is a terrorist profile," Hikind said.
The proposed legislation would authorize law enforcement officials to "consider race and ethnicity as one of many factors that could be used in identifying persons who can be initially stopped, questioned, frisked and/or searched."
The proposed bill drew the wrath of Donna Lieberman, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union in New York, who compared it to the alleged racial police profiling of blacks in New York.

Count on suicidal, guilt-ridden, self-hating liberals to try to do everything in their power to prevent effective counter-terrorism measures -- particularly self-hating Jewish liberals like this Lieberman woman, or her predecessor at ACLU, Norman Siegel (not to mention folks like Ron Kuby or, if he were still alive today, Kuby's mentor, William Kunstler), acting out of some bizarre sense of "tikkun olam". GRRRRRRRRRR!
Way to go, Dov! But don't count on this bill ever seeing the light of day on your side of the Legislature, thanks to the man who runs the State Assembly like his own personal fiefdom, that other soft-on-crime/terrorism liberal bonehead, SHELDON SILVER.
