From the accounts I have read, it seems these accidents happened when safety rules were not followed. Virtually every one of these accidents occured when people are crossing in the middle of the block or against the light or simply not paying attention.

    Please!!!!

Of course, following safety rules is no guarantee of safety. Freak accidents do occur. But these were not freak accidents. They are happening with too much frequency. Freak accidents are when accidents occur even though people are taking every precaution to avoid them. The idea that they somehow may have been prevented makes these heartbreaking tragedies even more devastating. Beyond the loss of life there is the toll this takes on the families and friends. Hashem should give the families strength and comfort and we should all daven that Hashem protects us all. Rabbosai, these are not the Karbanos we should be bringing!! May the only Karbonos we bring be offered in the Beis HaMikdash, B’Karov.

or they're busy yakking on their cell & have no clue as to what's going on in their surroundings. frankly, i don't understand why they don't ban crossing the street while speaking on a cell. how many times do drivers have close calls with people too engrossed in their cell conversations to pay attention to traffic?
