Tzafes, Israel - Two Killed as Rocket Attacks on Israel Continue

Tzafes, Israel - Rockets rained down on northern Israel for a third straight day today, killing a grandmother and her 5-year-old grandson, while many residents packed their cars, boarded buses and hitched rides out of a region that normally hasa large influx of tourists on summer weekends.

The woman and her grandchild were killed when a rocket slammed into the family dining room while they were eating the traditional Shabbas dinner in the town of Meron.

Several other family members were also injured in the rocket attack by Lebanon’s militant Shiite Muslim group Hezbollah. Israeli authorities did not immediately release the names of the family that was hit.

Two Killed in Rocket Attacks Over Shabbas.

A grandmother and her grandchild were killed Friday night when a Hizbullah rocket barrage slammed into Meiron as the family sat down for Shabbas dinner.

The child's family had left the city of Nahariya, which has suffered the brunt of rocket attacks by Hizbullah terrorists, to spend the Shabbas with family in the community of Meiron, near Tzefas (Safed). The child's mother and father were also injured in the direct hit on the grandmother's house.
The victims were identified Motzia Shabbos as Yehudis Itzkowitz, 58, from Meiron and her seven-year-old grandson Omer Pashov, from Nahariya.
Six other people were injured in the attack on Meiron, including a 10-year-old girl listed in serious condition and her grandfather. The 10-year-old suffered from a shrapnel shard that lodged in her neck when the rocket hit.
The injured were transported to the Ziv Hospital in Tzefas. Three other people suffering from shock also arrived at the hospital for treatment.
In the first attack by the Lebanese Hizbullah militia on the city of Tiberias, a number of waves of Katyusha rockets slammed into the lakeside city Shabbos morning, resulting in significant damage.

The attacks are viewed by government officials as a significant escalation of warfare, striking the city on the shore of Lake Kinneres.
Seven people were treated for shrapnel injuries and property damage in Tiberias is reported as extensive. A total of over 50 people were injured, with most suffering from various levels of anxiety and hysteria following the rocket attacks. The injured were treated in the city's Poriah Hospital.
The Magen David Adom emergency medical service reports that since Friday morning through Saturday night, its teams have been dispatched to more than 80 separate scenes of attack in the north of the country. 185 civilians were reported as injured, 61 of whom were hit with shrapnel (five suffering moderate injuries) and 122 who suffered from shock.
