Marlboro, NJ - Rabbi Accused of Abusing Synagogue Funds
Marlboro, NJ - A former New Jersey rabbi allegedly spent more than $100,000 of synagogue funds for personal use.
Peter Light, 47, had been a rabbi at Marlboro Jewish Center in Marlboro, N.J., for roughly two years before resigning.
During that time, he allegedly used synagogue funds for his personal needs.
Light told the synagogue board members he was using the money to help Hurricane Katrina refugees.
A police investigation is ongoing.

His selfish actions not only hurt his own family, but the entire 900 family congregation and community. He made a mockery out of everything he supposedly represented. I hope he finds a way to make amends to all that he has hurt one day.

People that he has converted are ashamed to have his name on their conversion certificate.

I'm a congregant with a low income. I can't afford high holiday tickets, and this man could afford to buy his girlfriend a 5000 dollar ring with our shul's money! Disgraceful.

It's a real shandah what rabbi Light did. The goyem will now have more reason to mock the Jews.

Since there has been no trial yet, would it not be better to wait to see if the man committed a crime before he is condemned. Maybe there should be no rush to judgement. The Talmud teachings tell us to hear all the story and maybe that is what we should do.

If he didn't do anything "wrong", why did he abruptly resign when he was confronted about his actions?

We feel like we were violated. We placed our trust and future in his hands and this was his payback. It is obvious that he has a sickness and needs help.

That's OK, the "conversion" isn't worth the paper it was written on, anyway....
