Wesley Hills, NY - Development Hearing Tonight

Wesley Hills, NY - A public hearing continues tonight on a controversial plan for a housing development on Route 306, just north of Village Hall.
The subdivision was the object of a three-year lawsuit between the village and the developers, evolving from plans that proposed an assisted-living facility, and then a condominium complex.

Last year, the parties ended the lawsuit by agreeing to a 21-house subdivision on the 12 acres of woods, instead of 100 condominiums.

Tonight's session before the village board is a continuation of a public hearing that has been ongoing for months, Mayor Robert Frankl said.
Residents opposed to the condo plan organized in 1999 as the Wesley Hills Civic Association. The group opposed any multifamily construction, while the developers, Kwilecki Enterprises Inc. and Maccabee Construction Inc. of Montebello, argued that multifamily units were an affordable-housing alternative.

Both the village and the developers agreed in a stipulation reached on Sept. 30 to change the property's zoning so more single-family houses could be built.
Trustee David Gantshar, who was elected in November, said the village board would not permit any change to the stipulation that would permit more housing.
