Spring Valley, NY - Assembly Candidates Fried, Jaffee Meet in Final Debate
Spring Valley, NY - Assembly candidates David Fried and Ellen Jaffee stayed mostly polite as they debated civil rights, property taxes and their voting records.
The debate, hosted by the Spring Valley branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, was the last for the two Democratic county legislators before Tuesday's 95th District primary.
The night's only tense moments came after the candidates were asked their reaction to accusations that Yitzy Ullman, administrator for the New Monsey Park Home for Adults, pressured residents to vote for four Democrats, including Fried.
Jaffee was booed by audience members, many of them wearing T-shirts in support of Fried, after she suggested Fried enlighten Ullman on fair voting practices, seeing as how Ullman carried Fried's petitions into the home.
"I think the suggestion there is a correlation is really inappropriate," Fried shot back, after saying that any interference with the electoral process should not be tolerated.
Joseph Brennan, a former Suffern trustee, is running on the Republican line for the seat that was formerly held by Ryan Karben, who resigned.
