Driver was arrested today after a police investigation into the accident, and charged with criminal negligent homicide after police learned that he was speeding and ran the red light, swerved around a car that had the right of way before plowing into the helpless victim.

"I heard a thud, a screech and a scream," said a witness who also lives several doors away in an Ocean Avenue building. "I didn't even recognize her. That's how mangled the body was."

NEW YORK (AP) — A 62-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a car in Brooklyn.
New York City Police say Julie Quinn was crossing Ocean Avenue and Avenue X at about 2:30 yesterday afternoon when she was struck by the Nissan Altima.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was arrested today after an investigation into the accident. Police say they're charging 58-year-old Leo Cantelmo of Staten Island with criminal negligent homicide.
