Mayor Went Upstate To Woo Jewish Voters
After hopping to the Catskills region in his own helicopter yesterday, Mayor .Michael Bloomberg tried to woo Jewish voters during a brisk campaign marathon in the mountains.
The Mayor greeted the breakfast crowd at Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, then he met with talmudic students in Woodridge, followed by a walk-and-talk at the Woodbourne shopping area and a stop at a girls' summer camp. He is counting on the votes of those 18 and older.
The Catskills area is a longtime popular attraction for Jews from the city, who send their children to camps or spend weeks there enjoying the lush green hills and fresh air.
Councilman Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) described the reception the mayor got as something akin to what "a great movie star or Derek Jeter" would receive if they visited Bensonhurst.
Bloomberg was warmly greeted, but some adults approached reporters to complain about parking tickets and sanitation fines for recycling violations.

Many often criticise B. Frielich, Itche Herschel, Yanky Meyer, Simchii Bernath, and others, without even knowing what they do for so many people. These people are often woken up at late hours, and help many people, even those they don't know.
While they may not be perfect, and yes they love the lights and sirens, they still do alot of good.

Releasing dead bodies are one of the few things that they do. How about the poeple that get arrested. In fact Yanky Meyer started an organization to help those, and he has had over 300 people expedited through central booking after having been arrested for having an expired license. Many of them were not even aware that it was suspended. Going through central booking can take 48 hours, with no access to tefilin, bathrooms (except a shared one in the corner) and being put into cells with every type of low life. So I say, let him keep his lights and sirens!!!!

Thank you for doing the right thing, this Friedman guy i dont know him as i live in BP. But i had my own story with him, when my tougher of 4 years old had her finger amputated on a Sunday afternoon on the way back from the mountains last year, i was calling all Machers i know in BP. to have me escorted to Cornel hospital so she can have emergency surgery, all of them gave me BS answers, the only one who was helpful was this Friedman guy who i dont even know and never met, he had a police car waiting me at the GW. bridge and was taken in to the hospital by rush, so my tougter can have emergency surgery and her finger was saved.

I am a member of hatzala in queens and one of my fellow members told me that he was on a call at Kennedy airport where a boro park member got in to a serious accident on a Sunday afternoon and there was a major problem with the port authority police and they wanted to ticket and possibly arrest some members and they were taken to the police building and Rabbi Heshel came down to the airport and got them all released without any summonses issued.

i was 2 weeks ago at the Pratt Institute school, where Abe Friedman gave a speech to the 350 new recruiters police officer, he was greeted by the police commissioner with respect as a rabbi who is there for the community and police, i heard hes speech, it was short, but he spoke about Shabbos and a few other sensitive topicks from the Jewish community. I was impressed.
if this would be any other asken speaking for 350 officers, you can be sure he would make a big deal out of it and photos in all Jewish newspapers. This guy is a low key nice guy, a "mench".
By the way i do know Heschel too, he deserves respect, these people do for klal yisrool, who cares how many lights or badges they have !!!!

Rabbi and wife defrauded state

ALBANY - A prominent rabbi on the state police payroll and his wife fraudulently charged the state more than $25,000 in travel and lodging expenses, according to the state inspector general's office.
Rabbi Edgar Gluck of Brooklyn was dropped from the state police payroll when the report was issued, state police spokesman Sgt. Glenn Miner said Monday. Gluck served as a special assistant and later consultant to the state police since 1984, making $40,000 a year, according to a report Monday in the New York Sun.
The findings have been referred to the state attorney general's office for further investigation. The behavior could constitute a felony, according to the inspector general's report.
The investigation began when Gluck's wife, Frieda Gluck, stayed in her Brooklyn home even after her $68,000-a-year state job as an assistant secretary was relocated to Albany. Since 1998, she proceeded to charge mileage in her Lexus and other cars as well as hotel expenses while she and her husband stayed in hotels and later in their Albany apartment, according to the state report.
Some of their fraudulent filings sought redundant reimbursement for expenses by the couple on the same trip, in the same car and in the same hotel, the report stated. Frieda Gluck has also been fired, according to the newspaper.
Gluck responded to tragedies and other emergencies involving the Orthodox Jewish community, acting as a liaison for state police. His wife worked for the state Workers' Compensation Board.
A request for comment left at the couple's Brooklyn home wasn't immediately returned.

Why is everyone so concerned about who has more lights and sirens? Who cares who has more badges? Who cares who knows more politicians?
The messages here, (and the ones regarding hatzoloh) are obviously written by individuals who have some level of jealousy towards those askanim.
Each one of the individuals mentioned here have helped a major number of people. While they can't always help everybody, and they can't always guarantee results, they each try to do their best.
They are only people, and on occassion there may be some conflict as to the best approach to rectify a situation. None of these askanim are fighting to be recognized as the greatest askan.
If we would all obey the law, and stick to the rules, we would have no need for them at all.
Speaking loshon hora is absolutely disgusting.
If someone has a legitimate taaneh against any of them, then lets have an intelligent conversation about it, otherwise, shut-up.
For all the wannabees, why don't you study these individuals, and see how they became what they became. It was not by sitting around and waiting for the PD to come call them. It was only through a slowly gained respect that they are able to accomplish what they accomplish.

Not all the favors that these people do are for those that are breaking the law. Some of the work these askanim do include:
- Releasing bodies for burial in a timely manner.
- Arranging for emergency passports and visas for those that need to travel for sick relatives or chalila levayahs.
- Arranging for police escorts for levaya's, hachnosos sefer torah, etc.
- Helping people stuck on the roads before Shabbos.
- Assuring that our shuls receive the proper police protection.
- Assuring that the police take a missing person situation seriously.
- Assuring that police investigate crimes in the community.
- Organize extra garbage pickups before pesach.
- Arrange for the Dept of Sanitation to not issue tickets before Pesach when many of us have large amounts of garbage.
