Brooklyn - In what was billed as the country's first latke-eating competition, eaters slurped 33 pounds of the Chanukah treats.

The three-minute battle was close until the end, with the three contestants dunking their latkes in apple juice to make them easier to digest.

Hundreds gathered outside Borough Hall cheered wildly as the group swallowed latkes
whole.

Hours prior to the contest all three food guzzlers admitted uncertainty about who would prevail, but Booker, the 420-pound "people's champ," ate his way to the top by swallowing 50 hamantaschen and, in a separate contest, 21 baseball-sized matzo balls.
