New York - Accountant That Helped Taxpayers Cheat, Is Now A Fugitive
New York - One accountant was nowhere to be found after being indicted with his partner on charges of tax evasion and helping hundreds of clients file false tax returns.
David Cohen, 54, and Jeffrey C. Rosner, 52, of Flushing, were accused of filing false returns for themselves and their wives, as well as helping at least 600 clients evade millions in taxes, according to a 21-count indictment filed by Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau.
Rosner appeared in a Manhattan courtroom on numerous charges of grand larceny, fraud and filing false tax returns.
But Cohen, who was expected to surrender to authorities for arraignment alongside Rosner, had seemingly disappeared as authorities searched his office, house and his daughter's Staten Island home.
Cohen's attorney, Joseph DeMatteo, did not return phone messages left at his Manhattan office.

Investigators believe Cohen is in Israel. "We know where he is, and we'll be taking the appropriate steps to bring him back," a source close to the investigation said.
