Mayor Of Roosevelt Ousted Over Yeshiva Flap
Roosevelt - By a vote of 276 to 66, not including 28 absentee ballots, Mayor Neil Marko was recalled from office in a special election Tuesday.
"This is basically kind of what I expected," Marko said after the results were tallied. "This was an orchestrated political event. "The fact that I could get this group of evil people to hate me, I must have been doing something right."
Marko has said the recall issue arose simply because he supports a controversial proposal to house a high school for Orthodox Jewish boys at the town's synagogue, where he was president of the trustees. The yeshiva began operating in September. "As I've said, this is all about the yeshiva," Marko repeated Tuesday night.
Maryhelen Hannigan, who lives across the street from the yeshiva on Homestead Lane, said she voted to recall Marko and to have Battel replace him. "You can't have state and church together; they're two separate entities," said Hannigan, saying Marko should not have got involved in the yeshiva issue.

I know the rosh Hayeshivah. This is nothing new. Most towns in NJ are totally anti semitic. Before Telshe Yeshivah moved to Riverdale they were located in Westwood NJ. The residents of westwood Nj used to throw rocks at the yeshivah, it's students and spit on the yeshivah bochurim. Church officials and police had to guard the students from being attacked etc. Some non jews stated they just do not want a yeshivah there but want the building for other uses! What a load of %^&*(......Anyway to this day, the building which housed the Yeshivah , 25 years later is still not being used for anything. And the most amazing thing is the midah kneged midah. Westwood NJ was totally flooded by storms last year and the only houses that were literally flooded and ruined due to the worst rain storm in 100 years are the goyishe houses that threw the jews out of Westwood. Go-d has his ways of taking care of business. Mark my word, the peoplestarting in with the jews in Roosvelt NJ will get what coming to them sooner or later.

And one more thing, Roosvelt NJ is about 58 miles from Brooklyn, NYA 65 minute drive and 30 minute drive from Lakewood NJ

There is also a Roosvelt on Long Island in Nassau County. I think its somewhere around Exit 18 of the Souther State Parkway.

Perhaps the article should have mentioned that it is a primarily Jewish town and the people who voted out the mayor were mainly Jewish? Think there might be more to the story? Nah - why bother with facts when you can bring divine retribution based on hearsay.

Our ex-mayor is blackening the name of Roosevelt, our great town, with his scurrilous name-calling. He pulled his coat collar over his ears so he couldn't hear the many real grievances people had with his activities, screaming at the same time, at Jews & gentiles alike, "anti-Semites!bigots!liars!" It's absolutely not true - and his screaming won't make it so.

Marko (who has not set foot in the shul on sabbath in years) was recalled for conflicts of interest, self-dealing, bullying, name-calling, and more. 81% of the voters in town voted him out. Shame on him for hiding behind the Yeshiva.

In the name of peace, we ask that you stick to the facts. The excerpt published deleted several comments from opponents to Neil Marko. It should be stated that Neil was seeking to influence the planning board (a public entity) to promote the yeshiva (a private entity), a serious conflict of interest. This fact is just one of many that prompted his recall. Just so you know who Neil Marko is, while he calls the recall committee and people who voted for his recall "bigots" and anti-semites, think about this. Neil Marko, only 3 months earlier, supported an ordinance to prohibit the building of any religious houses in Borough propert (this was to prevent an evangelical church from purchasing property in Roosevelt).
