New York - Subway Crime Takes A Big Dip

New York City - Subway crime has plummeted more than 37%, Robberies are down 21% so far this year. Grand larcenies have declined 46% and assaults have fallen 55%, NYPD data show.
One person has been murdered in the subway system, new police statistics reveal.
Hoodlums have committed 318 felonies in subway stations and on trains through Feb. 19, compared with 510 during the same period last year.
The crime slide comes as authorities have installed more surveillance cameras in the city's 468 subway stations. About 4,300 cameras will be recording in the subway system by the end of 2007, officials said.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly praised and credited Chief James Hall, the new head of the bureau, for the decrease in subway crime.
