Ramapo - Residents Plan Lawsuit Against Construction Of Yeshiva

Ramapo - Neighbors work to raise money for a lawsuit against a controversial construction plan of Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim Radin and housing complex on 4.7 acres.

They say that "Contrary to how it was portrayed by some people at public meetings, a large percentage of the neighborhood is opposed to it, but they don't want to go on the record. In fact, a majority is opposed to it." Because of population density and increased traffic.

The lawsuit fundraising plan was hatched at an evening meeting, about 30 people attended the meeting at Wesley Hills Village Hall. The oft-repeated theme was that the town had given so little weight to environmental concerns - a charge repeatedly denied by town officials and representatives of the yeshiva - that there was a good chance for the lawsuit to succeed.
The chairman of Preserve Ramapo, a group formed in opposition to Ramapo's master plan for development, said about $7,000 was still needed to see the lawsuit through a trial.
"Go back to your neighbors and talk to them as quickly as you can," he told the audience.
