Brooklyn, NY - City Unveils New 25¢ Toilet Stop

Brooklyn, NY - The first of 20 new public toilets, which will soon offer New Yorkers relief for the price of a quarter, was unveiled in Brooklyn.

The toilets which look more like elevators from the outside, are self-cleaning and dispense liquid soap and hot water. They are part of the city's joint campaign with a Spanish company to spruce up the streetscape with new 330 redesigned newsstands and 3,500 bus shelters.
Outside the chambers, a bank of lights near the coin slot signal the toilet's status: green for vacant; red for occupied; white for out of order. A yellow light indicates the daytime-only stations are closed for the night.

Twenty-five cents buys 15 minutes, and a recording gently warns users when it's time to get off the pot.
