small helicopter crash landed in a wooded area off Storms Road in the Town of Goshen Monday afternoon. Two people – a husband and wife – with addresses in Ft. Lauderdale and Quebec were on board. They both sustained cuts to their heads and legs.
“I heard the helicopter and heard the boom, no explosion, just the concussion,” said Harold Gill, a neighbor who was outside when the aircraft when down. “It sounded close; it sounded small like a motorcycle engine.”
Goshen Town Police and State Police were on the scene and a State Police helicopter was called to the scene.
Goshen Town Police Sgt. Matthew Imperio said late Monday that Gerard LeGault, 61, and his wife, Aurore, 59, were flying in their six-seat helicopter from Ft. Lauderdale to Canada. They had stopped in New Jersey and lost hydraulics over Goshen at around 2:30 p.m. The Eurocopter brand three-propeller chopper came down in a field and split in two.
The couple was taken to the Arden Hill Campus of Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen where they were treated for their injuries.
The FAA was called to the scene as police continue to investigate the incident..
