New Square, NY +Structure Fire+ A structure fire caused by an overheated electrical cord that spread quickly from the basement to the 2nd floor through the closets with large smoke showing at a 60x40 multiple dwelling at 56 Washington Avenue, Hatzolah and Hillcrest FD on the scene with about 40 firefighters from Spring Valley Fire Department, Ramapo Police and Rockland Paramedics.

No one trapped or injured. Rockland County Sherrifs Dept. are on the scene for the investigation.

Hundreds watched as firefighters extinguished the fire, Gordon Wren Jr., the county's fire coordinator said a community volunteer group assisted with crowd and traffic control. "They were pretty helpful," Wren said. "They were directing traffic so we could get the trucks in."
