Massena, NY - Vandals Strike Jewish Cemetery
Massena, NY - Vandals struck a Jewish cemetery, spray painting swastikas on the driveway, the vandals used paint left on the premises for a fence painting job to paint swastikas in the driveway of the Maple Street cemetery. Town Supervisor Gary Edwards told the paper that two sets of initials, “DL” and “RR”, were painted next to the swastikas. Edwards called it a repulsive act of vandalism and said it’s not something normally seen in Massena.
"Hopefully they will find out who did this. The people that did this may be surprised to find out something like this could fall under federal laws for hate crimes and even terrorism.”
The vandals could face a felony under a new State law, which makes painting, drawing, or burning onto public property symbols of hate punishable by up to four years in prison.
