New York, NY - C.C.R.B. Unable To Keep Up With Number Of Complaints Against The NYPD
New York, NY - The panel that investigates claims of police abuse and misconduct says it doesn't have enough investigators to keep up with a record number of complaints.
The Civilian Complaint Review Board received 6,796 complaints last year, an increase of about 10% from the year before and a whopping 47% spike in three years. "We are unable to keep up with the number of complaints we're receiving," Florence Finkle, the board's executive director, said.
Finkle projected that by the end of this year, the average length of time it takes to close an investigation will increase from 9-1/2 months last year to about a year. "In order to do our job properly, we need more resources," Finkle said, asking the city for an additional $1.3 million.
Police officials and board members said there was no clear reason for the rise in complaints - up 19.4% through May compared with the same time last year.

Its amazing that as the cops salary goes down, the complaints go up. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

The heimishe in boro park and flatbsuh are constantly harassed by the police. You are urged to take the time to file complaints with the CCRB. That is the only way to put an end to it. Where is Dov Hikind when we need him. In Israel of Course!

Something like 98% of all the complaints made to the CCRB are investigated and found to be bogus BS. There should be a law against filing false CCRB complaints. Criminal defense lawyers these days as a matter of course advise their perp clients to file a CCRB complaint as a bargaining chip for their case and to put the police on the defensive -- and they also figure that if enough complaints are filed, the cumulative effect will be that the cops will be cowed and intimidated into looking the other way and not doing their jobs of preventing crimes and apprehending criminals. If this nonsense goes on -- and especially if people in the Heimishe community add to the problem by filing a BS complaint every time someone gets a ticket for blowing past a stop sign or red light or illegally (and dangerously) blabbering away on a cell phone while driving, we will soon be back to the way things were during the reigns of terror of the two worst mayors in the history of NYC -- John Lindsay and David Dinkins. BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU WISH FOR -- BECAUSE YOU MAY EVENTUALLY GET IT.
