Cincinnati, OH - Bookkeeper charged $40K to synagogue

Cincinnati, OH - A former Golf Manor Synagogue bookkeeper charged $40K to the synagogue she worked for.
At sentencing on the theft charges in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, Toni Fleischmann promised to repay the $40,000 debt she racked up from hundreds of purchases on the synagogue credit cards.
"She took advantage of her position," said Assistant Hamilton County Prosecutor Bill Anderson. "This money was intended for religious purposes and she diverted it to her pocket."

Fleischmann, 48, who now lives in Beachwood, Ohio, apologized, saying she got behind and didn't realize how much she had taken.
Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Melba Marsh sentenced Fleischmann to five years probation and to repay the money.

The deception wasn't discovered until after Fleischmann left her job, said the synagogue's treasurer, Ira Zimmerman.
