Fort Wayne, IN - Religious Garb Fashionably Modest
Fort Wayne, IN - When the heat waves hit us, some people didn't dress down to stay cool, their clothes stayed on. Modesty is the best - and only - policy, they say. Keeping their clothes on – even when heat and the humidity rise – is their religious lifestyle.
Regardless of the weather, Orthodox Jewish tradition requires men to wear long-sleeved shirts and women to wear ankle-length skirts.
Although Jeff Gubitz, executive director of the Fort Wayne Jewish Federation, says there are few Orthodox Jewish families in the area, that doesn’t mean that Jewish families don’t adhere to the dressing tradition. “Our dress is traditional and conservative,” he says. “Men keep their arms covered, and women keep their bodies covered. “When it is hot, you wear more cotton that helps to stay cool in hot weather.
We are modest. But some of the dressing you see isn’t so much a question of modesty but a question of taste.”

Hmmm ... so women have to wear ankle length skirts. I was taught that the skirts have to cover the knees.
Reminiscences of Stepford Wives in Fort Wayne. Interesting.

Since when do men have to cover their arms? And women are required only to cover their knees, not all the way to the ankles.

their dress may be because theyy believe but the kind of language they use is not at all godly

Actually, women need to cover FOUR INCHES below the knee, so when they sit down or step up into their SUVs, nothing shows.
American Jews have gotten extremely far from really dressing with tsnius.
The American penchant for tight and revealing skimpy clothing has unfortunately contributed to the escalation of attacks on women.
Sorry, but some men have NO CONTROL, while others are .... (censored)

Actually Jewish men shouldn't go around dressed immodestly either. A properly dressed man should wear a shirt, with sleeves, and long pants, so his hands shouldn't touch a part that is erva, so he can daven and learn with clean hands.
