White Lake, NY - Catskill Mountain Speedway Goes Silent
White Lake, NY - Effective immediately, all racing activities at Catskill Mountain Speedway have been discontinued.
A contributing factor to making this difficult decision, has been a local ordinance which restricts racing to only Saturday nights. Last year a number of Sunday events helped fill the place.
Also did current promoter Michelle Gannon say that a low car count and grandstands as the main reason that operating the Sullivan County facility is no longer cost affective.
To date, a third of the 2006 season has been rained out, contributing to the ill financial health.

I do beleave that if the price was just a bit lower that would have helped. But from sitting with the rest of the croud I have came to learn that We did not want to pay that high price and know who was the winner even before we sat down. I'm sure as a rase car fan I would have paid any price along with others, if only you had got read of your cheaters..

In the 70's I worked at the Ritz theater in White Lake during the summer. The owner wasn't very shrewd. He wanted to show Jaws, a 3rd run film, for $3.50 a ticket. I convinced him to charge $2.00, showing him how he can sell 3 times (or more) as many tickets at that price, and be more profitable. I was a math major at the time.
The same principal holds with the racetrack. There's a profitability maximization analysis that can be run to determine ticket charges, investment, upgrades, all that, to find out how to best run the track. Of course, the answer might be "nothing will work", but then again, you might be surprised with a major NASCAR track. I think hiring an expert to do this analysis would be a good investment.
