West Long Branch, NJ - Prosecutor To Take Over Case of Teenager Arrested at Sisters Wedding
West Long Branch, NJ - A teenage summer resident - arrested in connection with a weekend party scuffle on Monmouth Road as was reported at that time on VOS IS NEIAS, waived his appearance in Municipal Court, and jurisdiction over the case has shifted to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
David Edelstein, whom authorities say is 18 years old but whose uncle says is 17, was charged with two disorderly persons offenses: disorderly conduct and underage drinking of alcohol, and two criminal offenses: aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Edelstein is the son of Marc and Rena Edelstein, Brooklyn residents who spend their summers at their Monmouth Road house, where a scuffle broke out when police responded to noise complaints at an engagement party for the Edelsteins' daughter that was attended by between 200 and 300 guests.
David's uncle, Ronald Edelstein of Long Island, said police made derogatory comments about Jewish people when they responded and he is challenging the police account blaming his nephew for getting combative, so borough police asked the Prosecutor's Office to conduct a probe to determine whether officers acted appropriately.
Ronald Edelstein also said, police used "Gestapo" tactics even though Marc Edelstein complied with their request to lower the music and move cars.
