4 people "critical" after 3-car wreck
LAKEWOOD: Four people were taken to a local hospital with critical injuries after a three-car crash on Madison Avenue (Route 9) Sunday night, authorities said.
The crash involved a Ford Econoline van, which according to emergency personnel at the scene had collided head-on with a Ford Explorer about 9:30 p.m. A Buick Century traveling behind the SUV slid into it.
Executive Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Robert A. Gasser said the van was traveling south on Madison Avenue near 11th Street when it veered into the northbound lane and hit another vehicle. The third vehicle rear-ended the second vehicle.
Gasser said three of the four people in the van and the driver of the second vehicle were taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, with critical injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
The cleanup of the crash was hampered by construction material from the van, which included ladders, that spilled onto the road.
Gasser could not identify the victims Sunday night.
