Manhattan, NY - Synagogue Buys Genealogical Society Building
Manhattan, NY - The New York Synagogue has signed a contract to buy a Midtown building belonging to the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, Rabbi Marc Schneier of the New York Synagogue said. The synagogue, which has been renting space in the six-story building at 122 East 58th Street since 2003, will pay $24 million and plans to spend $11 million on renovations, he said.
The synagogue, which is affiliated with the Hampton Synagogue, plans to expand from off-season services to year-round services, the rabbi said.

$36,000,000 total for a building! I would think reform Temple Emanuel would have sold out at that price. Think what maftir Yonah is going to cost there next year.

Marc Schneier is one heck of a business man. He hobnobs with some of the wealthiest jews on the planet and learned just how to do that from pop.
