NYPD Community Affairs Bureau To Be Run By Officer For First Time
The NYPD's Community Affairs Bureau will be headed up by a uniformed officer for the first time in its history. Douglas Zeigler, the current chief of the Organized Crime Control Bureau, will take over the bureau starting February 1."
This added operational responsibility formally recognizes the important relationship between schools and communities and the Police Department," Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly, said in a statement.
Also did Commissioner Kelly become dissatisfied with how the Community Affairs Bureau was being run under its former leader, Joyce A. Stephen, and decided to replace her with Chief Douglas Zeigler, a lawyer and 33-year-veteran, as the bureau is overhauled to absorb the School Safety Division.
