Ocean Township, NJ - Developer Charged With Bribing Former Township Mayor

Ocean Township, NJ - A real estate developer surrendered to federal authorities, after being indicted on conspiracy, bribery and fraud charges for allegedly paying the former mayor of Ocean Township $50,000 in return for approval of one of his projects.

The developer Moshe G. Gohar is charged with bribing former Ocean Township Mayor Terrance D. Weldon in 2001.   Gohar was seeking approval to build 75 units on an 81-acre development. He could get 10 years in federal prison if convicted.
According to the Indictment, Gohar gave the $50,000 in cash to Weldon in a paper bag at Gohar's home. Weldon kept the money in the attic of his home until Jan. 23, 2002, when it was seized by the FBI.   Weldon pleaded guilty to similar charges in October 2002 and is awaiting sentencing.
