Williamsburg - Industry Zone On Preservationist Save List
Williamsburg - Some factory buildings of such as the Domino Sugar factory, will be named one of New York's most endangered historic treasures today by a state preservationist group, to prevent developers from building apartments in the former industrial district.
Several rowhouse blocks that once housed factory workers also might be landmarked.
Developers may be expected to fight landmark designation of their property, similar to when owners of the 184 Kent Ave. warehouse succeeded in preventing its landmarking last November, said Williamsburg lawyer Adam Perlmutter.
"They don't want to be constrained with what they can do with their buildings," Perlmutter said.
