NY - State Troopers To No Longer Plea Bargain On Traffic Tickets

New York, NY - When you get ticketed by a state trooper for speeding or another traffic infraction, you go to municipal court and often times plea bargain with the trooper before appearing before the judge. And, more often than not, you can get that speeding ticket or other offense reduced.

Not anymore.

The chief attorney for the Division of State Police had issued an administrative order that effective September 1, all prosecutorial duties relating to traffic infractions, including plea bargaining in local courts, will now be the responsibility of local governments.

But Orange County District Attorney Frank Phillips is vehemently against the plan because his assistant district attorneys would have to pick up the caseload.
