Brooklyn, NY - Downtown Kosher Deli Closing

Pastrami Box, a downtown Brooklyn fixture for almost 10 years, will dole out its last round of lunchtime sandwiches today, and will soon give way to a new Chinese food restaurant, the victim of rising rents and dwindling customers.

The Board of Education left this area and the business keeps on going down a lot, said owner Mikel Domgjoni, 42. All the court lawyers come in just for 30 minutes a day, and after that nobody comes in, "The street changed. Livingston is dead now."

The owner couldn't afford to pay many employees at the deli on Livingston St. - so he cooked, washed dishes and manned the cash register himself. But the $5,800 rent proved to be too much, along with taxes and electric bills, which brought the monthly upkeep to $28,000, he said, adding: "I can't pay that with hot dogs and knishes."

on Friday afternoon, the deli's solitary customer was dismayed to hear the bad news. "It's the only kosher deli in the area," said attorney Bob Ugelow, 60, who was enjoying a sandwich on his lunch break. "It's a shame."

U/D:
From now on, if you are paying a ticket in downtown Brooklyn or for any other reason and you're looking for a kosher deli near the courthouse. Enter Baruch Yehuda Ganz, who took the venerable New York push cart and made it Kosher. Try the falafel balls or a knish. He just east of Court St, open from noon to 3:30pm on weekday Kwik Kosher

Brooklyn - His Kosher Food Cart Is In The Right Place
Brooklyn Heights - For kosher food lovers Brauch Yehuda Ganz's Kwik Kosher food cart on Remsen Street near Court Street, is the wave of the future.
Ganz moved his cart into that location, last summer, shortly after a kosher restaurand at 16 Court Street closed down, and the landlord of 26 Court Street, an angel, Mr. Zupnick, inviting him to this private spot after being pushed off every other corner.
"My customers are like family," said Ganz. I feel much beter making people happy. Money is not everything."
Regulars said they found Ganz as likable as the food he sold. He even invited many to his daughter's recent wedding.

Brooklyn Heights, The Pushcart That God Blessed
Brooklyn Heights, Over the past few years, dining options dwindled in the area and several kosher restaurants in the neighborhood closed because they could no longer afford to pay their rising rents, leaving local Chasidim with few places to eat.
Brauch Yehuda Ganz, decided therefor to open a kosher pushcart: Rabbi Shmiel Berger of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, inspects the cart regularly to verify that it meets Chasidic dietary requirements, and he said he knew of no other kosher pushcarts in the borough.
"There are a lot of pushcarts in New York, but Jewish people eat only from places with supervision," he said, referring to rabbinical supervision, a service he provides to a host of restaurants and catering businesses in Williamsburg and Borough Park.
