Kerhonkson, NY - Catskills Fire Is Out, Officials Say
Kerhonkson, NY - A fire official says the brush fire in the Catskills that ate up almost a thousand acres this week has been contained.
Ulster County Fire Coordinator Charles Mutz said that from his perspective, the fire is out. But he says the state Department of Environmental Conservation will monitor the area.
Mutz said the D-E-C measured 997 acres burnt by the fire, which was first reported Sunday evening about 70 miles north of New York City. Helped by wind and dry brush, the fire pushed into a state forest preserve. No structures were damaged.
