Kiryas Joel, Monroe, NY - Looks like the children of Kiryas Joel won't get their own playground, after all.

The state promised the village $195,000 in 2001 but the project promptly vanished into a haze of official explanations. Kiryas Joel turned down the grant last year after learning the county was going to build the Gonzaga park.
The Gonzaga playground will be right outside Kiryas Joel and cost the village nothing.

Building its own park would have required a $195,000 matching share for the village.
