Ramapo, NY - Suspended Building Inspector To Resign

Ramapo, NY - Town Board is expected to accept the resignation of suspended Building Inspector Brian Brophy at its meeting tonight, Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence said.

Brophy, 57, of Valley Cottage was suspended indefinitely with pay Feb. 16, more than two weeks after he was injured in a car accident on the New York State Thruway. At the accident scene, state police reported finding marijuana and an envelope containing $6,400 in $100 bills in the town-owned sport utility vehicle Brophy was driving. Brophy, who ran the town's building, planning and zoning departments, has pleaded not guilty to three traffic infractions and the marijuana violation.

St. Lawrence said the board is then expected to authorize a job advertisement to fill Brophy's position. He said the board wanted Brophy, who has been employed by the town for 21 years, to retire by July 1.
