Albany, NY - Kiryas Joel Asked For Bill, That Their Public Safety Officers Could Use Flashing Lights And Sirens

Albany, NY - Kiryas Joel Village officials have outfitted five Chevy Impalas and a Jeep Cherokee with flashing red lights and sirens, as though they were police cars racing to calls.

But questions by the state police and a legal opinion from the state Attorney General's Office has led to legislation in Albany this year that would ensure Kiryas Joel's constables can use their lights and sirens.
The Attorney General's Office issued an informal opinion, telling officials in Brocton, a village of 1,500, that state law wouldn't allow its peace officers to operate flashing lights and sirens on their vehicles.

Because of that opinion and state police questions, Kiryas Joel officials asked their representatives in Albany - Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt, R-Greenwood Lake, and Sen. William Larkin, R-Cornwall-on-Hudson - to introduce a one-paragraph bill declaring that Kiryas Joel's public safety officers could use flashing lights and sirens.
Committees were reviewing their legislation, it could be taken up when lawmakers return to Albany, although Kiryas Joel Administrator said it's unnecessary because the village attorney has persuaded the state police that existing law already permits the lights and sirens. The state police couldn't confirm that resolution.

what the heck is the stupid desire and lust of getting red lights and a siren?? Why don't you guys go back to pre1-a?? Its amazing, even most of the hatzola guys are obssesed with it - ugly how some of the cars are equipped. What's the point?
I and everyone in my little shul respect fully the hatzola guy that drives a car with minimal lights - no stupid chrismas bars and whistles, and quietly does what they can in a quiet way. How I wish I was zocher to be in HIS/THERE shoes.

And if you post "well its a safety issue....." why don't you just put goggles on your 95 year old grandma, its a safety issue ya know moron!

we are not obbsesed with lights and sirens its a saftey issue. you respect the hatzolah guy in your shul, he is an idiot if he is an active member then he crosses busy intersections against the light. He is putting himself and everybody else in danger. When i first joined hatzolah i also put in minnumum lights and sirens until a car whos driver was spacing out and whacked me which ended up being my fault (i crossed on the red). Now i got 2 sirens and more lights then you could count and nobody hit me since. If you want to respond to save lives dont put your life or somebody elses in danger responding. Kudos to Kiryas Joel who want their public safety officers responding to emergencies safely and quickly. Shame on you for starting up with them, they have enough people against them as it is they dont need yidden also.

    what a bag of dunk!

Listen here you POTZ, I am a now retired HATZOLO member, and whatever that guy wrote is true. You call him an IDIOT means you are the epitome of crass, the pinnacle of garbage and the lowest of the dung heavers.
All you need is strong corner STROBES that alone will blind anyone. That and maybe one of them dash lights and your in business.
If you are an imbicile crossing RED lights the way you state you should never be in hatzolo let alone ever accepted. Too bad - bump into me and I'll fix your hide.
    What a bunch of crap.
You sound like the Rabonnim V/S Kolko type of person. I won't even go further on this. It is SELF UNDERSTOOD where you stand on MANY ISSUES ;)

Ever see KJ's "Fire Chief" rolling around NYC? What is he doing in NYC? Fire Chief car should be stationed in village it serves.
How about a "Gmach" van with lights and sirens with the name Gmach Hatzolah???
    How abour Pizza Hatzolah???

you as a retired hatolah guy, how many times did you cross ocean pkwy responding to a code 1 w/ just corner strobes. First rule in bls YOUR SAFETY then your pt safety. Safety includes responding to the call, thank god your retired. I would not want you responding to my house it would take you a million years nobody moves any more for corner strobes in brooklyn and you should know that. traffic laws state the minumum is corner strobes do you do evreything the minumum? you respond to a code pt 10 min. down are you not going to do everything you could do to save the pt. or are you going to do ems style foot compressions until als shows up to pronounce stay retired. last what does kolko have to do with l&s?
