Dublin, Ireland - 1200-Year-Old Tehillim Found in Irish Bog

Dublin, Ireland - A construction worker who spotted something while driving his shovel of his backhoe into a bog.The approximately 20-page Tehillim has been dated to the years 800-1000. Eexpert Bernard Meehan said it was the first discovery of an Irish early medieval document in two centuries.
Pat Wallace, director of the National Museum of Ireland, has the Tehillim stored in refrigeration and will be facing years of painstaking analysis before being put on public display.

“There’s two sets of odds that make this discovery really way out. First of all, it’s unlikely that something this fragile could survive buried in a bog at all, and then for it to be unearthed and spotted before it was destroyed is incalculably more amazing.”

He said an engineer was digging up bogland last week to create commercial potting soil somewhere in Ireland’s midlands when, “just beyond the bucket of his bulldozer, he spotted something.” Wallace would not specify where the book was found because a team of archaeologists is still exploring the site.

I was stunned when I saw the news on CNN yesterday (http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/07/25/ireland.psalms.ap/index.html) that an ancient Tehilim was found in a bog in Ireland, and that it was open to the page of Chapter 83 (http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt2683.htm) which discusses Amalek and Yishmael as well as other nations uniting against the Jewish nation. It also discusses Hashem's "plans" for "dealing" with them.

In fact, the book is actually "stuck" on that page, as they are afraid to turn the page for fear of destroying the book completely.

I find it fascinating that just when the events that are happening in Israel, the major news outlets report the finding of a Tehilim stuck open at this prophetic and relevant chapter. They even point out some of the verses in the chapter that relate to the current events.

I believe that this may very well be a sign from H-shem that He is aware of what is happening and as heard our cries and will fulfill the prophecy mentioned therein.

I hope this provides some chizuk when desperately needed.

WCBS reported that it was opened to kapitel Pai Gimel, 83, which is what we began saying during the Gulf War (We joke it stood for Persian Gulf) which describes that nations have declared War on Eretz Yisrael. G-d's fingerprint, you might say, reminding us that He's still in charge.

Psalm 83 talks about Yishmaelim and "Hagrim" (the children of Hagar), Ashur (Assyria was in Iran, Iraz, Syria and Turkey)"Yoshvei Tzur" --I believe that is Tyre...is this amazing or what? It also mentions Amalek--I believe the Iranian PM can qualify for that position!

Here's the english translation to chapter 83. It lists "Philistia, with the people of Tyre." Philistia is where the pelishtim lived now known as Gaza and Tyre (Tzur) is in Lebanon where many of the rockets are being launched from.

Btw, Ashur or Assyria is now in northern Iraq. It's capital Ninveh is today's Mosul

    Psalm 83
A song. A psalm of Asaph.

O G-d, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O G-d, be not still. See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more.”

With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you- the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, Gebal, ] Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. Even Assyria has joined them to lend strength to the descendants of Lot. Selah

Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, who perished at Endor and became like refuse on the ground. Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of G-d.”

Make them like tumbleweed, O my G-d, like chaff before the wind. As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD .

May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Was it a tehilim in Hebrew or psalms in a foreign language?

I had blogged yesterday (owner chose not to publish) that Yahoo says it's a Psalms (meaning not a Tehillim but written in another language).
