Malverne, NY - Man Escapes Major Injury After LIRR Train Strikes His Vehicle
Malverne, NY - A man escaped serious injuries after his vehicle he was driving was trapped on a Long Island Railroad crossing and got struck by a westbound train on Hempstead Avenue and Broadway.
Edward Schwartz from Far Rockaway was taken to Winthrop University Hospital with only minor injuries, and is in good condition in the hospital.
Traffic was very heavy when the 92-year-old Schwartz drove his 1996 Toyato onto the tracks, and when the crossing gates were lowered, Schwartz was trapped and didn't have where to go, he tried witout success to back off the tracks, but at that time he got swiped by the the equipment train which pushed his car into a fence, FD, PD were all on the scene to rescue him.
Service on the LIRR West Hempstead Branch was temporarliy suspended as a result of the accident.
