Orange County, NY - State Police Requesting New Barracks

Orange County, NY - NY State Police recently made a request for proposals to build a new barracks on Route 208 between Interstate 84 and Route 17K.
The 30 troopers, sergeants and investigators of the Newburgh barracks are now housed in a renovated Air Force building at Stewart International Airport. "I've been told that we're going to move," state police Capt. Steve Nevins said. If all goes well, construction of the nearly 5,800-square-foot barracks would begin next year. The cost of the project has not been determined.

As early as the early 1990s, state police brass talked of moving the station to Montgomery. In that time, the red-brick building has slid into disrepair. "People we've arrested have said this place is a dump," said Neil Moscato, senior investigator at state police in Newburgh. He was in the interrogation room, which yesterday doubled as a hospitality suite for a meeting with Rabbi Morton Friedman of Kiryas Joel. "People say, 'This place is a police station?'"
"That's what I said," Friedman added.
