New York, NY - Officials Investigate Gas Odor
New York, NY - More than 100 residents of Staten Island and about a half-dozen in Queens and Brooklyn complained about a gas odor permeating in their neighborhoods.
The U.S. Coast Guard, as well as fire and utility officials, were trying to locate the source of the odor. Mariners in the area also called about a strange, gaseous smell.
About seven people were transported to area hospitals after complaining of headaches and nausea.
The Staten Island calls came from the borough's north shore, while the six or so in Queens came from the Rockaways section, he said.
Breezy Point volunteer firefighters stated that the odor may have come from a plant in Bayonne, NJ that is conducting a natural gas "blow-off"
